Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League Match Report: Wolves' £14m summer signing struggles

Just 21 touches: £14m player seriously struggled for Wolves in Brighton loss

Wolves spent a reported £14 million to sign Nathan Collins from Burnley in the summer, but the defender had a difficult outing in his side's 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Collins, who was making his first Premier League start for Wolves, was hooked at half-time after a poor performance.

The 21-year-old defender was caught out of position for Brighton's opening goal, which was scored by Neal Maupay in the ninth minute.

Collins was also at fault for Brighton's second goal, which was scored by Leandro Trossard in the 35th minute.

The Republic of Ireland international was subbed off at half-time, with Toti Gomes coming on in his place.

Wolves manager Bruno Lage admitted that Collins had a difficult game.

"He's a young player, and he's still learning," Lage said. "He made some mistakes today, but he'll learn from them."

Despite Collins' poor performance, Wolves fought back to earn a point from the game.

Raul Jimenez pulled a goal back for Wolves in the 55th minute, and Fabio Silva equalised in the 75th minute.

However, Brighton snatched a winner in the 86th minute, with Neal Maupay scoring his second goal of the game.

The defeat leaves Wolves in 19th place in the Premier League table, while Brighton move up to 10th place.
