The Boston Red Sox welcomed back their erstwhile ace Friday night as they continued their postseason push.Updated 8:25 PM PDT August 11 2023 BOSTON, Mass. (AP) — Chris Sale returned after 10 weeks on the injured list and retired his first 14 batters, combining with two Red Sox relievers on a three-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Sale is dealing with another injury following an early exit on Thursday. The Red Sox were forced to pull their ace from a start against the Rays after he gave up three runs on four hits and two walks in just 2 1/3 innings.
The Red Sox placed Sale on the 15-day injured list on Friday and announced that he will be out for at least six weeks with a right shoulder impingement. Sale will not need surgery, but he will undergo a platelet-rich plasma injection.
This is a major blow to the Red Sox, who are currently in the thick of the AL wild-card race. Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball, and his absence will be a major loss for the Red Sox.
